Music Courses Offered at CHS
Music 9 (Band 9) - in the Time table, year long during Block 1, shared with PE9. In general, Band 9 students will have Band on Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays with PE9 on Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be some altered dates throughout the year. Please pay attention to our calendar on the many platforms and calendars we have available to you.
Instrumental Music 10/20/30 (Band) - Year long classes in the time table, sharing time with English/spare - Please see calendar!
** Typically students will have English on Monday/Wednesday/Friday & Band on Tuesday/Thursday or the opposite, depending on the Quarter/Term. However, there are some weeks where this schedule will change due to festivals, workshops, trips, exams, etc. We also leave the schedule open in order to be flexible due to teacher absences. Sometimes class may change if one of the departments requires a change. Please ensure you are paying attention to the English/Band calendar and staying up to date with announcements on REMIND.
Band 15/25/35 (Symphonic Band) - This course is for Grade 10 - 12 Students and is a mandatory Co-Requisite course to Instrumental Music 10/20/30. For Cochrane High, our Symphonic Band rehearsals are Wednesday mornings at 7:15 - 8:50 am, plus mandatory sectionals (as scheduled by a senior sectional leader), as well as workshops and performances.
Instrumental Jazz 15/25/35 and Jazz 9 (Platinum Band) - This is a jazz course, split into 2 ensembles:
Junior Jazz (grade 9/10 students and secondary instrument players) on Thursday mornings at 7:15 - 8:50 am;
Senior Jazz (Grade 11/12 students & auditioned juniors to fill any open spots needed) on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 - 8:50 am.
Pit Orchestra - Musical Theatre 9/15/25/35. We typically rehearse monday mornings from 7:15 - 8:50 am and Fridays 1:30 - 4:30pm
** Many extra rehearsals, workshops, sitzprobe, dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals, etc will be added. Please check our calendar given out in September.

* All morning rehearsals start @ 7:15 am sharp!

These out of rehearsal times are mandatory as they are not only important to the success of our ensembles, but also vital to course completion and course outcomes. All students are required to attend. Please ensure you have our calendar connected to your devices so you do not miss out on these important events.
