Good morning families, It has been a busy start back with students preparing for festivals and exams. Best of luck to all students writing - I hope you are successful in your endeavours! In preparation for our upcoming festival (dates posted below) we have booked clinics for the first week back in February. Students are asked to keep up a consistent practice schedule throughout the break so that we can achieve our ensemble goals once we return. Practice can be playing through short excerpts of music, using air and fingers to 'play' through music, counting rhythms, singing through parts, annotating your music, listening to different recordings, playing along to recordings, etc. For more on practicing: 10 Tips to Help You Practice More Effectively https://www.classicfm.com/lifestyle/wellbeing/musician-practice-tips/ 8 Ways to Practice Effectively Without Your Instrument https://www.joleneharju.com/practiceroomrevelations/2017/5/15/okbz32qj05wq0bab4x37gvaau3ncnw Important Upcoming DatesJanuary

Shared information from the Cochrane Rotary Youth Talent Festival
"For those of you who have had students participate before, you will know that, once again, is a festival where children can perform in a safe and supportive environment with top notch adjudicators. We welcome Choirs, vocals (solos, duets, trios, groups), instrumentalists, bands, musical theatre and compositions at festival. We are thrilled to able to give out thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes. We have sent many young people to specialized camps (dance, theatre, vocal, instrumental...) and have helped many families purchase instruments (pianos, guitars, saxophones, violins, drums...) and we want to do it again! There are only 3 weeks left to register (deadline January 26) so don’t miss it! Festival will be held on Feb 2,3 and 4th, 2020, with the FINALE on Feb. 7th. Cash prizes will be given out, and Scholarship winners will be announced at FINALE. Please go to [the] website cochraneyouthtalent.ca for more information and to register! Thank you!" Hello band families!
Welcome to the New Year - I hope you had a wonderful holiday and were able to spend time together making memories. I'm excited to be back and I'm looking forward to what this next chunk of time will usher forward for our band students. As some of you may know, I attended the Midwest Clinic in Chicago at the end of December, which is a large music conference bringing people together from all over the US and Canada. I'm excited about all the PD I had the opportunity to take in and hope I can bring some fresh ideas into the classroom. *Important Note: Gr. 10-12 J-Block courses will be running this week. The next few months will be fairly busy as students take part in exams, start Semester 2, and start preparing for our next festivals and concerts. Here are some of the anticipated upcoming important dates: January:
